These precision-molded PVC wedges are sold in pairs, and in two sizes. Small and Large. You may wish to purchase our special double-faced mounting tape to position these in your footwear.
Our injection-molded PVC wedges provide approximately three degrees (1/8", 3mm), six degrees (1/4", 6mm) or nine degrees (3/8", 9mm)of pronation or supination control. They are intended to be semi-permanently mounted in the shoe beneath the heel and under the foot bed or insole. They can be cut to fit your shoe with a razor knife, and are easily cleaned.
Heel wedges are not new to the healthcare field, with recommendations from orthotists, and orthopedic surgeons, this wedge is constructed a little differently. In the large wedges, the wedged area runs from the back of the heel anterior 55 mm in order to laterally or medially roll the calcaneus, consequently giving stability to the sub-talar joint. In the small wedge the wedged area runs from the heel anterior 45mm.
Varus/valgus wedges of 3°6°or 9°can be used for pronation or supination problems of the foot and ankle. Wedges are designed to help align the calcaneus (heel) during ambulation to limit excessive pronation or supination. They improve foot function by stabilizing weak, rotating ankles.
The lateral heel wedge is useful for patients with early medial compartment osteo-arthritis provided it is used with an understanding of the indications and its limitations. Research shows that patients with early medial compartment osteo-arthritis of the knee were treated with lateral heel wedges and were followed for a period of 7 years and 5 months to 12 years. Those who were treated with heel wedges and analgesics showed a significantly greater improvement in pain score than those treated with analgesics only.
